Get the Credit You Deserve

It’s time for you to get the credit – capital credits, that is – that you deserve for helping build and sustain your local electric cooperative. In June 2010 we began retiring/refunding capital credits to members like you across our service territory. This year, members from 1974-1984 will receive capital credits, reflecting your ownership of the Cooperative during those years.

Unclaimed Capital Credits

There are several former members from that time period who we have been unable to contact. Please view a current listing of names of members with unclaimed Capital Credits allocated for the years 1974-1984.

Capital Credit Q&A

This Q&A should answer many of your questions about capital credits and your retirement/refund. If you have additional questions, please contact us at (317) 745-5473 ext. 4008 or (800) 876-5473 ext. 4008.

What are capital credits?

Because Hendricks Power is a Cooperative, owned by its members, it does not technically earn profits. Capital credits are the retained “margins” leftover at the end of a year - basically the difference between operating costs or cost of doing business and the total amount of money collected. This capital allows Hendricks Power to finance operations and construction.

Is Hendricks Power Cooperative the REMC?

Yes, Hendricks County Rural Electric Membership Cooperative, also known as Hendricks County R.E.M.C began doing business as Hendricks Power Cooperative in 1996. The Cooperative has been in business since 1936 and has a service territory in various portions of Hendricks, Morgan, Montgomery, and Putnam Counties.
